Lois D. Sowers, 85, of Rapid City, passed away on May 30, 2016 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. Lois was born on May 16, 1931, in Sunfield, MI, the daughter of Dr.Stephen I. and Lelia (Smith) Emery, raised in Bellaire, Mi. Lois resided in Owosso, MI, for many years, where she was a Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout Leader for the largest Troop in Owosso and was employed for the Argus Press Newspaper. Later on, she worked in the Home Health Care industry. She attended the Evart Bible Methodist Church for many years and the Bellaire Wesleyan Church for the past few years. She loved collecting music boxes and reading books with her favorite one being her Bible. She is described, by her family, as a Godly woman who loved her family very much. Surviving are three children, Dianna (Quinton) Weatherwax of Owosso, MI, Denise Goad of Owosso, MI, Bonnie (Ernest) Brewer of Rapid City, MI, two sisters, Lelia Dawalt of IN, Dorothy Frye of OH, sister-in-laws, Carol Emery and Betty Emery as well as 12 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Douglas Sowers, son-in-law Kenny Goad, ten siblings, Sibyl Emery, Dawn (Lyle) Tullis, Juanita (George) Perkins, Rosalind (Ivyal) Irwin, Girl Twins A and B, Doris (Johnny) Kyle, Marian Emery, Stephen Emery and Paul Emery. Funeral services will take place on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bellaire Wesleyan Church with Pastor David Ward officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
