Lois Evans

Lois J. Evans, 85, of Bellaire, passed away on September 3, 2014 at Charlevoix Area Hospital. Lois was born on December 4, 1928 in Grandville, MI, the daughter of Gerrit and Mabel (Hayes) Drogt. Lois was a member of the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church and was employed by the Bellaire Greenhouse for 26 years prior to retiring in 1994. She loved knitting and crocheting and won several prizes for her fine work. She enjoyed dancing, especially polka, gardening, traveling throughout the United States, as well as going on 3 separate trips to Africa. She was also a longtime volunteer for the Bellaire Senior Center. On September 23, 1960, in East Jordan, she married Wayne Evans who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter Rhonda England, a son Roger Evans, sister Arlene Folk and an infant brother John Gerrit Drogt. Surviving are 3 children, Oleta Dawson of Kewadin, Gerrit (Janice) Taylor of Elk Rapids, Marjorie Drogt Evans of Bellaire, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery, Torch Lake Township. The family strongly suggests rather than flowers, please make a contribution to the Bellaire Senior Center.
