Lodema May Springstead, 89, of Central Lake, died Sat. Dec. 26, 2009, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Feb. 26, 1920, in Milford, the daughter of Frank and Ava (Steele) Hale. On July 4, 1941, in Detroit, she married Jo Springstead. Together they moved north to Central Lake in 1955. Lodema enjoyed hunting in those early years. She also enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family. Lodema was a member of the Central Lake United Methodist Church where she was active with the Swiss Steak Dinners for many years. She was also a member of the Central Lake Lions Club and Historical Society. Lodema is survived by her children Joseph (Sandra "Kaye") Springstead Jr. of South Bend, IN, Lissa (Jerry) Kent of Central Lake and John (Laurie) Springstead of Central Lake. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren Richard (Adrienne) Springstead and Amanda Jo Springstead all of South Bend, IN, Paul (Dana) Pruyt of Central Lake, Lloyd (Desarae) Kent of Traverse City, Laure Kent, Melissa Kent and Heather (Mac) Eckhart all of Central Lake Brandon (Jenn) Springstead and Josh (Kayla) Springstead all of Kewadin, 8 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Jo, 2 sisters Elizabeth Riopelle and Dora Cook Neff, brother John Hale and her parents. Funeral services will be held Wed. Dec.30, at Eleven a.m. with Pastor Chuck Williams officiating at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. The family will receive friends Tues. Dec. 29, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Torch Lake Twp.
