Linda Evangeline Murray was born at home in Mancelona on June 7, 1927, to Jennie and Frank Frederick. She was the 7th child of nine children. Linda lost her mother when she was three, and her grandmother when she was fifteen. She had to drop out of high school to take care of the house and cook for her granddad, pa, and two brothers who worked the family farm. She loved the cats on the farm and would dress them in baby clothes. Lindy always had a cat or two and spoiled them like children.
Lindy taught herself how to play piano and how to yodel. She played piano at the Green Lantern in Alba where she met her first husband, Norman Allen. She lost her husband and never had children, even though she loved everyone else’s babies. During the week she worked in a canning factory and on the weekends she loved to dance. Her favorite step was the Jitterbug. She said, “It isn’t Saturday if there isn’t a dance.”
She met her second husband Bob Murray while working together in the canning factory. They were married 37 years. They enjoyed traveling with Lindy’s older brother in a motorhome. They traveled to Seattle, Washington, California, Texas, Oklahoma and Florida visiting extended family.
Lindy took care of her pa, her two older brothers, and her husband prior to their passing. She welcomed any and all into her home with a big smile on her face. She is loved by many nieces and nephews and is called a second mother to some. She lived in and cared for the family centennial homestead most of her life. She will be remembered for her kind heart, her ever smiling face, and loving spirit.
Linda was preceded in death by her father and mother Frank and Jennie Frederick, her husband Robert Murray, brother Orrin (Helen) Frederick, brother Alvin Frederick, brother Ervin (Ellen) Frederick, sister Eula (Ben) Moore, sister Ethelene (Jack) Henson, sister Doris (Bert) Queen, brother Marvin (Yvonne) Frederick, and sister Ruth. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, grand and great grand nieces and nephews who will miss her open arms.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, July 8, at noon, at the Mancelona Church of the Nazarene located at 119 E. Main Street, Mancelona MI 49659, with special thanks to Pastor Dennis Burton.
