Lester Philip (Phil) Lawrence, 87, of Kalkaska, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at his home at Kalkaska Memorial Assisted Living. He was born October 27, 1926 in Gaines, Michigan, child of Lester Isman and Margaret Edessa (Hunt) Lawrence. Phil was an artist of distinction, specializing in sculpture and the reproduction of fine Kentucky rifles and antique pistols. He was co-owner of Lawrence Custom Homes in the Flint area. Phil was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. On July 5, 1945 he married Barbara Jean Robinson, who survives. Mr. Lawrence is also survived by sister Margaret Patricia Lockwood of Seneca, SC; children Cathy Jean (William) Wininger of Central Lake, MI; Rodney Steven (Susan) Lawrence of Kalkaska, MI; and Debra Jane (Donald) Roth of Petoskey, MI; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Erik) Fleet of Williamsburg, MI; Matthew (Sarah) Lawrence of Williamsburg, MI; Brett Lawrence of Holland, MI; Amanda (Steve) Brennan of Kentwood, MI; and Gretchen (Scott) Zahn of Belmont, MI; sister-in-law Karen (Ron) Windorfer, Traverse City, MI; brother-in-law Fred (Linda) Robinson, Phoenix, NY; great-granchildren Sawyer and Olivia Fleet, Parker, Ashlyn and Ethan Lawrence, Olivia and Phoebe Brennan, and Dieter and Evelyn Zahn. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Keith Allen Lawrence, brother-in-law Richard George Robinson, and his grandson Ryan Jason Wininger. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Kalkaska Assisted Living. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice North Country, 507 N Walnut St, Kalkaska, MI 49646, Kalkaska Assisted Living, 509 S. Orange St., Kalkaska, MI, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
