Leonard R. Carnes, 66 of Bellaire, died peacefully, Thurs. July 4, 2013, at home, with his loving daughters at his side. He was born June 17, 1947, in Pontiac and adopted by wonderful and devoted Christian parents, Raymond and Grace (Johnston) Carnes when he was 8. Leonard proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a truck driver in the later years and enjoyed traveling and seeing God's creation across the states. He also enjoyed being at his lake house and watching the birds. Spending time with his daughters and grandchildren was most important to Leonard. He loved them with a fierce and unconditional love and taught them how to be a blessing to others. Leonard was always telling stories and liked to find the comical side of situations. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Carolyn Scheere, at the young age of 29. He was also preceded in death by an infant son and his parents. Leonard is survived by his beloved daughters Chrissy (David) Nicholie of Richmond, TX and Susie (Matt) Bainbridge of Grosse Pointe Woods and also his grandchildren Jacob, Haley, Hannah, Evan, and Marissa. Funeral services will be held Sun. July 7, at 3 pm at the Central Lake Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Russell Tharp officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 pm until the time of service. Interment will take place in Oakland Hills Cemetery, Novi, next to his wife.
