Leo "Jerry" Allen

Leo Jerome "Jerry" Allen, 83, of Johannesburg, Michigan passed away in Charlevoix.

He was born on December 21, 1932, in Hiawatha Township, Schoolcraft County, Michigan, the son of Richard and Jessie (DeVroy) Allen.  Both of his parents preceded him in death in 1937.  Jerry was raised by his grandparents, Mittie and John DeVroy.

Jerry graduated from Manistique High School in 1950 and received his Bachelor of Pharmacy from the Detroit Institute of Technology in 1956.

He married Dorothy Berry in 1954, and she preceded him in death in 1978.  In 1995, he married Lois Phillips and she preceded him in death in 2011.   He was also preceded in death by a son, Mark Allen and two stepsons, John Paul and Jeff Phillips.

Jerry is survived by three daughters, Linda Yates, Beverly "Bob" Sabin and Diane "Paul" Wood; one stepson, Jamie (Carolyn) Phillips; one stepdaughter, Jeanine Phillips; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one sister, Susan "Ron" Carefelle; and one brother, Gene "Shirley" Allen.

He was active in volunteer work for the United Way and the RSVP program.  Jerry was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Lewiston MI.  He enjoyed the Marygrove Retreat Center, fishing, golfing and traveling.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 4086 Salling Avenue, Lewiston Michigan 49756.  Arrangements were handled by the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix.
