Leila G. Darby, 88, of Mancelona and Livonia, died Thursday, August 20, 2009 at her sister's home in Mancelona following a brief illness. Leila was born June 24, 1921 in Pellston, the daughter of George and Mary (Wingo) Darby. A polio survivor, Leila lived with her parents and then with her siblings. Her cheerful disposition and ready laugh endeared her to her family, who also benefited by her creative skill with crafts. She was beloved by all who met her, and will be dearly missed. Surviving are four siblings, Veda Warner of Gaylord, Arthur (Sharon) Darby of Sharpsburg, GA, Reatha (Norman) Jackson of Livonia, Ruth Collins of Mancelona, sister-in-law Joann Darby of Tulsa OK, nineteen nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Thelma and brother-in-law Joe Pausits, a brother Ivan and sister-in-law Rheda Darby, brother Robert Darby, brother Richard Darby and brother-in-law Clare Warner. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 28, 2009 at Twelve Noon at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral homes with Rev. Gerald Cook officiating.
