Lawrence "Larry" Wynsma, 95, of East Jordan, died Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire.
He was born April 5, 1922 in Banks Township, Antrim County to Egbert and Jennie (Essenberg) Wynsma.
Larry was a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Army in Japan.
Larry worked at Will-Flow in Charlevoix until his retirement. He loved buying and selling cars, doing yard work and spending time with his grandchildren.
On January 6, 2001, he married Ruth Loper in Central Lake. They made their home in East Jordan. Ruth died in 2004.
Surviving are his children Diane Evans of Petoskey, Mary Patton of Boyne Falls, Arlis "Butch" (Kay) McCall of Boyne City, Larry (Barb) Loper of Manistee, Rita (Brian) Bennett of Boyne Falls, Brenda Chanda of East Jordan, Barry (Sandy) Loper of Charlevoix, Gary (Linda Helminiak) Loper of Freesoil, Monty (Lisa) Loper of Boyne Falls, Rodney (Diane) Loper of Boyne Falls, son-in-law Arnold Nettles of Charlotte, TN; 34 grandchildren; over 50 great-grandchildren; and brother John Wynsma of Byron Center. Besides his wife Ruth he was preceded in death by his daughter Melody Nettles, grandson Robert Bayha, sister Eva Padavana, and brothers Marvin Wynsma and Arthur Wynsma.
Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the Ellsworth Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Chris Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Ellsworth Cemetery.
