LaVonia Solomon DeYoung, 92, of Charlevoix, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at her home. She was born December 24, 1922, in Charlevoix to George and Anna (Orsak) Krchak, and grew up in Charlevoix. In 1946, she married Donald J. Solomon, and he preceded her in death in 1957. During WWII, she worked in the factories near Detroit for the war effort. She was employed by DME in Charlevoix for twenty years as a Class A Machinist. LaVonia enjoyed knitting and crocheting, gardening and canning, and was active in 4-H in Charlevoix and Little League in Grosse Pointe Woods with her kids. She attended the United Methodist Church in Charlevoix. LaVonia is survived by her sons, Donald J. Solomon, Jr. of St. Clair Shores, Albert W. (Janet) Solomon of Charlevoix, Gordon A. (Katherine) Solomon of Traverse City; daughter, Marla Larsen of Elmira; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Kathren Cummings of Rochester. She was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters. A celebration of LaVonia's life is planned for summer. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emphysema Foundation.
