Laura May Blackhurst Baker Brelick 91, of Fort McCoy, Fl, formerly of Midland, MI, went to be with her Lord and Savior at the Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire, on August 26, 2012 with her family by her side. She was born May 7, 1921 in Midland, the daughter of Edward and Cora (Lantz) Blackhurst. Laura married Gareld (Jerry) Baker in 1945. They resided in Midland, and he preceded her in death on April 20, 1976. After Jerry's death, Laura moved to Florida, where she met and married Michael Brelick. He died on June 29, 2006. Growing up in Midland, Laura was an active member of the United Methodist Church. She was a leader in 4-H and the PTA when her children were young. After moving to Florida, she joined the United Methodist Church of Lady Lake and Fort McCoy, FL, where she was very active and the leader of various clubs within her church. She loved to travel, working on her many craft projects and loved to read. Her most cherished time was spent with her beloved family. Laura is survived by daughter, Barbara (Charlie) Guntermann of Fort McCoy, FL, daughter, Connie Kobel of Bellaire, son Dennis (Betty) Baker of Tyler, TX, sister Ruth Berryhill of Big Rapids, sisters in law Christine Baker of Auburn, Ethel (Baker) Grover of McMinnvilee, TN, Mildred (Baker) Skinner of Zeeland and many nieces and nephews. Laura leaves her precious grandchildren Kimberly Lane of Orlando, FL, Charles Guntermann III of Fort McCoy, FL, Curtis Guntermann of Orlando, Fl, Jeff (Trisha Engler) Baker of Orlando, FL, Cathy (Ryan) Valeriano of Orlando, FL, Stephanie (Jason) Castlebury of Longview, TX, Todd (Kathy) Kobel of St. Clair Shores, Kelly (Rob) Bailey of Bellaire, 15 great grandchildren that she loved very much and 6 very special great, great grandchildren. She was a very precious and caring mother and grandmother; she will be missed dearly. Laura was preceded in death by her brothers and their spouses, Lawrence (Cathleen), Leo (Helen), Glenn (Doris), Alfred (Marion), George (Audry), Floyd (Iva) Blackhurst, her sister Ava (Orville) Coleman and brothers in law, Charles Berryhill, Ray Baker, Thurlow Grover and Charles Skinner. The family will receive friends Thurs. Aug. 30, from 4 to 6 p.m.at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Graveside services will be held Sat. Sept. 1, at 12:45 p.m. at Midland Memorial Gardens with visitation from Noon until the time of service. Arrangements have been handled by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
