LaRue Kenney, 93 of Charlevoix, passed away November 21, 2019 at American House Charlevoix.
LaRue was born November 20, 1926 in Allegan, Michigan to Herman Leverenz and Edna (Hansen) Leverenz. In 1958 LaRue moved with her family to Charlevoix to run the Kit-Carson Lumber Company for many years.
A known cardshark, LaRue excelled at Euchre, Canasta, Pinochle, Bridge and others. She was an active woman, enjoying golf, skiing, bowling, and boating. As well as taking her family to dinner at the Dam Site Inn. She wintered in Arizona for over 30 years before coming back to Charlevoix full time. LaRue received her Bachelor’s degree in retail from Western Michigan University.
On June 26, 1948, in South Haven, Michigan, she married Glenn Kenney who preceded her in death. Also preceding LaRue in death are her parents, Herman and Edna Leverenz. She is survived by three children, Dick (Pat) Kenney of Fountain Hills, AZ, Cheryl (Sam) Buitendorp of Boyne City, MI, and Kim (Bob) Kierczynski of Traverse City, MI. As well as eight grandchildren, Sarah Kenney, Cara Kenney, Rebekah (Rahman) Moes, David Buitendorp, Seth (Kahlei) Buitendorp, Trevor (Stephanie) Kierczynski, Troy (Kadra) Kierczynski, and Kali (fiancé Presley Holmes) Kierczynski. Along with seven great-grandchildren.
