LaCorda Mae Smith 85 of Elk Rapids passed away February 14, 2022 at Samaritas Senior Living in Williamsburg. She was born January 25, 1937 in Lansing, the daughter of Alan and Dolores (Davidson) Youngs.
On September 17, 1955 in Lansing, she married Richard Lee Smith. They were long time members of the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids. LaCorda was very active in the community as a Cherry Festival Ambassador hosting many of the band competitions, volunteering with Harbor Days in Elk Rapids, and hosting several exchange students through the Rotary program, to name a few. LaCorda loved music, knitting and having a good time. She started a few knitting groups and donated hundreds of knitted items to veterans, newborn babies, the homeless community and anyone that needed to be cheered up. If you walked into LaCorda’s house, chances are you would be leaving with something that she knit. LaCorda is also known by many as the branch manager of the Old Kent/Fifth Third Bank where she worked for several years. She loved her family dearly and was happiest when they all came together for any special occasion. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and in their younger years they belonged to a square dancing group
Left to cherish her memory are her children Ron (Julie) Smith of Central Lake, Don Smith of Traverse City, Doug (Cindy) Smith of Fenton, Lisa (Alvin) Thomas of South Carolina her grandchildren Stacy (Jim) Harbin, Melissa Smith, Tracy (Adam) Carefelle, Candace Jaruzel, Erik (Kellie) Smith, Nicholas Smith, Steven Thomas, Brandon Thomas, Chad Thomas, Dustin Thomas, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, siblings Dale, Ardis, Joyce and Royce, grandson Damien Smith and great granddaughter Ali.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 26th at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids with Rev Jim Porter officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The family will also receive friends Friday, February 25th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Memorial donations can be given to Promedica Hospice or First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids.
