She was born on February 14, 1941, in Traverse City, MI, the daughter of Leon and Juanita (Hardy) Ouvry.
Kay loved reading books, eating out, trips to the casino and was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan. Most of all though, Kay loved following her grandchildren through the many sports seasons over the years for the Mancelona Ironmen.
On February 6, 1960 at the Mancelona United Methodist church Kay married Jack Derrer and enjoyed 42 years of marriage and family.
Kay loved the sun and the pool, and decided to move to Florida following Jack’s passing in 2002. You could often find her at her condo in Punta Gorda drinking a Pepsi and soaking up the sun.
Surviving are her 5 sons, Doug Derrer of Mancelona, Dennis Derrer of Mancelona, David (Amy) Derrer of Mancelona, Don (Julie) Derrer of Bellaire and Dan (Natasha) Derrer of Mancelona, her grandchildren, Dustin (Johanna) Derrer, Dakota Derrer (Evan Henry), Dylan Derrer (Samantha Meadows), Anthony Derrer (Mackensie Garlow), Ashley Derrer (Miner Cabela), Wyatt Derrer (Alicia Tomlin), Kaillie (Austin) Johnson, Cody Derrer (Ashley Szymanski), Garrett Derrer (Madisen Forman), Alexis Derrer (CJ Camp), Olivia Derrer (Jake Paganelli), Dawson Derrer, Stasia and Peyton Derrer as well as 1 great-grandchild Declan Derrer.
Also surviving are 2 sisters, her twin sister Karol Span of Spring Lake, MI, Vicki Muehring of MO., and, her longtime companion Carl Sutherland of Punta Gorda/Ruskin, FL.
Preceding her in death was her husband Jack Derrer, 2 sisters, Mary Lou Sheppard and Phyllis Taylor and twin granddaughters Ann Marie and Kay Lynn Derrer.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. and again on Friday from 1-4 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mancelona United Methodist Church.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona.
Since Kay was one of the founding members of the original Mancelona Sports Boosters, the family asks in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions may be made to the Mancelona Athletic Department, 112 St. Johns Ave, Mancelona, MI, 49659.
Arrangements are in the care of the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
