Kathleen Blechel

Kathleen Jean Blechel, 72, of Charlevoix, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.  She was born on June 20, 1950, in Charlevoix, the daughter of Keith and Jeanne (Goble) Miles.

Kathy graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1968 and went on to earn her Associate’s Degree from NCMC in Petoskey.  Many will remember her contagious smile from the drive thru at Charlevoix State Bank, where she worked as a teller for many years.  Later in life, Kathy also worked as an administrative assistant for the Charlevoix County Jail.

Kathy liked spending time planting and tending her flowers as well as feeding and watching birds and squirrels in the backyard.  She loved animals of any kind.  She also enjoyed talking and laughing with family and friends, or listening to the waves crash on Lake Michigan. Being a mom and talking about how proud she was of her kids was her favorite hobby.

Kathy is survived by her two children, Scott Blechel of Charlevoix and Lyndsay (Skye) Blechel of Oxford; her grandson, Xander Blechel; and two nephews, Bryan (Dar) Swanson of East Jordan and Craig (Laura) Swanson of Charlevoix.

She was preceded in death by her parents.  Her sister, Laurie Crandall, passed away soon after Kathy, on January 26.

Scott and Lyndsay would like to invite friends and family to stop by the family home Thursday, February 2nd between 3-7pm to share memories, stories, laughter, tears and love in honor of their dearly departed mother, Kathleen Jean Blechel.
A celebration of life will follow this summer.
