Katherine Allen

Katherine L. Allen, 46, of Kalkaska, passed away Monday, October 24, 2011. Kathy was born May 10, 1965 in Bellaire, Michigan the daughter of Emerson and Margaret (Gould) Root. Kathy worked at Meadowbrook for many years, and recently worked for the Antrim County Commission on Aging. She loved her dogs, enjoyed camping, family genealogy and taking pictures. She resided in the Alden and Mancelona area her whole life. Most of all, her pride and joy was her sons. On October 11, 1986, at the Antrim Church of Christ in Mancelona, she married her beloved husband Robert Allen who survives. Also surviving are her sons, Nathan and Carl Allen; mother, Margaret Gould of Alden; two brothers, Willis Root of Mancelona and Emerson Root of Alaska; two sisters, Penny (David) Johnson of Traverse City and Lorrie (Derrick) Porter of Alaska; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Emerson Root and uncle, Milton Gould. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Antrim Church of Christ with Pastor Mark McCool officiating. The burial will follow the service at Chapman Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, October 28, 2011 from 2 - 8 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
