Karen R. Manial

Karen R. Manial 72 of Central Lake, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 18, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born May 28, 1950 in Saginaw the daughter of Charles and Nona (LaBeau) Marks.

   Karen led a busy active lifestyle.  She enjoyed volunteering and was involved in several community groups including the Zonta Professional Womans Group of Charlevoix.  Karen loved the outdoors especially hiking, boating, and camping with her family.  She loved going on adventures and traveling all over the United States with her husband.  She also enjoyed books and reading.

   For several years Karen was a bank manager in Eastport.  She also worked as an EMT on the Torch Lake Township Ambulance for many years.  In 1990 she and Mike opened Mike’s Glass in Charlevoix and successfully ran it for many years until retirement. 

   On February 1, 1969 in Saginaw Karen married Michael Manial who survives.  Also surviving are her children Michael “Eric” Manial and Nona (John) Szczepanski  both of Charlevoix, grandsons Stasch Szczepanski of Ellsworth and Jacob Szczepanski of Charlevoix, and brothers Gerald (Sarah) Marks of NC and Glenn Marks of FL.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Janet Carlton, Kate Austin, and brother William Marks.

   A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 25 at 2 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service.  Memorial contributions can be given to Charlevoix Zonta Group PO BOX 234, Charlevoix, MI 49720.
