June King

June Catherine (Irving) King passed away on February 13, 2012. June, who was born in Detroit in 1918 to Helen and Frank Irving, lived a full and rewarding life, surrounded by family and friends who loved her. She was raised in Flint, Michigan, where she attended St. Michael School. After working for the General Motors public relations department, she married John (Jack) King in 1941 and followed his military career throughout World War II. After the war, she and Jack raised six children in Flint and spent many summers with the family in the cottage they built on Old Mission Peninsula. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack King, in 1971, and her son, Tom and his wife Linda. She leaves behind her children, Judy King, John and Betsy King, Martha King, Jim and Rose King, Katy and Lax Vessels; grandchildren, Jack, Juliette, Frank, Mike, Megan, and Jimmy King, Brande and Mark Schiller, Paul and Karen Vessels, Kendra Worthington and David Schiller; great-grandaughter Maizie Schiller; brother Bernard and wife Celeste Irving; sister-in-law Noleta Dewsbury; brother-in-law Clark King , and many nieces and nephews. She outlived a wide circle of close friends, many of whom graduated with her from St. Michael High School in Flint in 1935. June spent her last years at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire, Michigan, where she was well cared for. June cherished her family and friends and was known for her cheerful disposition and a sense of humor which survived to her last days. Memorial contributions may be made to Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility, 4543 S. M-88 Hwy., Bellaire, MI., 49615-9552 or to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters (IHMs), 610 W. Elm Ave., Monroe, MI., 48162. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 15 from 6:30 to 7 p.m. with a Vigil for the Deceased at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Thur., Feb. 16 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Flint with Fr. Douglas Osbourne officiating. Visitation from noon until the time of Mass. Interment will follow in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Flint. Arrangements are being handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
