Joyce Marie Turner, beloved wife, mother, sister and grandma passed away peacefully on Sunday November 22 at Meadow Brook Care Facility in Bellaire Michigan. Joyce was born in Dearborn Michigan in 1932 to Ann and Gus Wallick. She grew up in Dearborn where she enjoyed her time at Fordson with great friends that she kept in touch with her whole life. She also enjoyed tormenting her baby sister Judy (Humitz). After graduation she married Dave Reid and raised three daughters, Claudia (Hickman) who preceded her in death, Beth Bentley (Vern), and Laura Reid Edwards (Phil). After her divorce in 1967 she moved "up north" to start anew in the area where the family had a summer cottage on the "flat road" on the bay. There she met the love of her life Ken "Doc" Turner. They soon combined families and mom was blessed with three more daughters that she loved with all her heart, Kathi Ross (Joe), Diane YoungeDyke (Denny), and LouAnn Bensinger (Mike). The new Brady Bunch joined together at the State Street home in Central Lake where Dr. Turner had his family practice. They lived there until 1977 when Ken and Joyce flew the coop and moved to Lusk, Wyoming where Ken practiced medicine for 25 more years. While there, Joyce started her own business; Interiors by Joyce, which was a very successful interior design store. Her background was in design and she created a beautiful store to showcase her talents. In 1999 they returned to the bay and lived just a few doors down from Ken's mother's original cottage near Barnes Park. They lived there until shortly before Ken's death in 2004. During that time Joyce became the head designer and assistant manager of Merrie Corbett's new store Adam's Madams in Central Lake. Joyce loved her time working with Merrie and the two had many years of fun and creative collaboration. Their friendship was a gift to both of them. Joyce worked there until her health declined. She also loved helping her longtime buddy Mar DeTar cranking out doughnuts at the shops. Joyce's greatest love was always family. She had a spark and sense of humor that will provide family stories for many, many years to come. She always said, "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." She had inexhaustible energy and made friends everywhere she went. Her creativity, sense of style and zest for life will be remembered and cherished forever. "Nanny or JoJo" as a she was known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren was always willing to be silly and her goal was to make them laugh. Every family gathering will continue to have dance moves .."the JoJo" performed to various degrees of expertise. She will be deeply missed by Stuart (Amber) Hickman, Emily (Zack) White, Drew (Michelle) YoungeDyke, Kellen (Valerie) YoungeDyke, Megen (Paul) Bucchi, Elizabeth and Leann Bentley and her darling great grandchildren, Ava and Lake Hickman, Osley and Parks White, Elsa and Rhona Younge Dyke, and Owen, Blake and Adeline Bucchi. She also be missed by her nephew John Humitz (Bridget), and niece Jan Caporale (Doug). Joyce made many friends everywhere she lived and made the best of every situation. She had many health issues and kept her sense of humor throughout. She was an inspiration to us all. The family would like to thank all those who made her days brighter; her extended family Alan and Cindy Hickman, her wonderful care giver Molly Hybl, her dear friends at the condos, the Hospice of Michigan team, the wonderful staff at Meadow Brook, and her church family especially her angel Char Lundy. Our family has been blessed to be surrounded by this caring loving community. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 25, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Central Lake. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eastport. Memorials may be given in her name to the First Congregational Church of Central Lake or the Central Lake District Library. Joyce will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her, but her legacy of resilience, humor, energy and zest for life will be with us forever. Rest in peace.
