Joyce Petter

Joyce Petter, 82 of Ellsworth died Saturday, March 17, 2018 at her home in the loving care of her family.

She was born October 15, 1935 at Charlevoix Hospital in Charlevoix the daughter of Henry and Josie (DeYoung) Wassenaar. She was welcomed by her older brothers Ronald and Marvin.

She graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1954 and attended Muskegon School of Business.

On March 26, 1955 she married Edwin Petter at Belltower Reformed Church and they made their home in Ellsworth.

She was employed by the Ellsworth Canning Factory, East Jordan Public Schools, and Drenth Brothers. After retiring from Drenth Brothers she attained CNA certification and spent several years providing home health care services.

Joyce and Ed devoted many hours to Good Samaritan Family Services in Ellsworth. She spent so much time there her grandchildren still refer to it as "Grandma's store".

Joyce and Ed have been a wonderful inspiration to their family. Their lifelong love of each other extended to their community and beyond. Joyce played piano and organ for the Pilgrim Holiness / Wesleyan church for decades. She loved to sing and hymns remained a source of enjoyment in her later years.

She is survived and missed dearly by her husband Edwin; children Phyllis (David) Priest of East Jordan, Carla Kammerer of Ellsworth and Derek Petter of Gaylord. Grandchildren Donald, Eleanor (Anthony), Aaron (Kristi) Caleb (Ashley) Jesse (Brittany), Joseph, Haley, Hannah, Samuel, Madison, Steven, Maggie, Eli, Tori, Tyler, Betrys, Kacey, Kaden, and Lillian. Great Grandchildren Lucy, Oliver and Luca.

She was preceded by her parents, brothers Ronald and Marvin, and grandchildren William, Andrew and Jasmine.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Hastings Funeral Home with Pastor David Willett officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday , March 21, 2018 from 4 to 7. Burial will be in Atwood Cemetery.
