Joyce Perry

Joyce Perry, born Oct. 15, 1926 in Appleton, WI, was educated in a Lutheran school and told mischief stories of roller blading down sidewalks and altering uniform dress code by rolling down socks after leaving home. Her mother died when she was 5 but with the help of a loving father, siblings and step mother, she learned to cook, sew, and keep house. During WWII she worked in a torpedo factory and a chocolate house. Joy met and married a handsome sailor, Donald G. Perry from Northern Michigan, where after the war they settled to raise 2 daughters, Donna (David) Pflum of Roscommon, and Debrah (Robert) Johnson of Alden. They were delighted with the 2nd generation of 3 grandchildren and later 6 great grandchildren. Joy sang in church choir for many years, read hundreds of books, and embroidered countless linen, her specialty being wonderful baby quilts for friends, family, and need babies. She loved to bake pies, buy gifts (Christmas was her favorite time of year), and give hugs. Joy was an avid Green Bay Packer Fan. On Sun. July 15, 2012, Joy went to sing in the heavenly eternal choir and will be waiting to hug each of us when we too pass through the promised pearly gates. Besides her children and grandchildren she is survived by her sister Marjorie Zimmerman of Lincoln, NE. She was greeted in heaven by her husband of 64 years, Donald, her parents George and Emma (Guenther) Zimmerman, and her brothers Kenneth and Raymond Zimmerman. Funeral services will be held Wed. July 18, at 11 a.m. at the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church with Pastor Carl Litchfield officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Custer Twp. The family will receive friends Tues. July 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes and again Wed. July 17, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorial donations may be directed to the Bellaire Animal Shelter or the Alden District Library. Arrangements have been handled by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign her online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com.
