Josephine May Asquith passed away May 2nd, 2009 at her home in Central Lake. Josie, as she was known to her friends and family, was born January 10th, 1943 in Central Lake, to Miller and Frances Young. She grew up in Central Lake, graduating from Central Lake High School in 1960. She went to nursing school at North Western Michigan College in Traverse City. She was always proud of the fact she was a graduate of the first class to receive degrees in Registered Nursing from there. After graduation she moved to Ann Arbor, where she worked in the surgical unit at the University of Michigan Hospital. In 1976 Josie moved back to her family's homestead and built her own beautiful home on Benway Lake. She retired from nursing at Charlevoix Area Hospital in 2006. Josie was an accomplished pianist, and played the flute in many local community bands. On June 28, 2008 she married life time friend James Asquith. Josie enjoyed many things, especially traveling. Some highlights of her travels include a medical mission trip to Nepal and a cruise around the world. Josie loved spending time with her granddaughters Emily and Abby. Those who will miss her dearly include her husband Jim, daughter and son-in-law Yvonne and Joe Nachazel, granddaughters Emily and Abby, step-children Gail (Eric) Robinson, Shawn (Don) Green, Liz (Jim) Moss, step-grandchildren Sarah, Shawn Michael, Nicki, Missy, great-granddaughter Lily, brother Bill (Carol) Young, sisters Vesta (Gordon) Smith-Campbell and Connie (Mike) Peterson, golf partner and travel companion Sandy Nemecek and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Miller and Frances Young. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Eleven a.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Pastor Chris Wallace officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Southern Cemetery, Central Lake Twp. A luncheon will take place at the VFW Hall in Central Lake. Memorial contributions may be directed Northwest Michigan Hospice of Boyne City or Charlevoix Area Hospital.
