Joseph P. Patrell, 90, of Bellaire, passed away on April 20, 2015 at his home. Joe was born on March 5, 1925, in Highland Park, MI, the son of Vincent and Dora (Adasavage) Patarello. Joe served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Joe was employed as a police officer for the City of Detroit from 1949-1976 where he earned his way up to Lieutenant. Following retirement from the Detroit Police Department he went on to become the supervisor of parking for Wayne State University for 10 years. He had summered in Bellaire for many years prior to moving permanently after his employment was over with Wayne State. While living in Bellaire, he was a long time member of St. Luke Catholic Church. He is survived by 2 daughters, Mary Ann (Robert) Schuckel of Bellaire, Lynne (Tim) Murphy of East Jordan, 2 grandchildren, Jessica (Keith) Wilson, Tim (Danielle) Murphy, 2 great-grandchildren, Alex and Kately Wilson, 3 sisters, Rosalie Patarello of Tauton, Mass, Betty Fraser of Venice, Fla, Vicki Hartley of Fla, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann Patrell, his parents, a sister Lillian DeLaHaye and a brother Frank Patarello. A Memorial Mass will take place on Friday, April 24, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church in Bellaire. Fr. James Gardiner will officiate. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire. Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice or the Bellaire Senior Center. Arrangements are being handled by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
