Joseph D. Martinchek, 81, of Charlevoix walked on peacefully to be with God on August 3, 2017 at Charlevoix Area Hospital.
Joseph was born on October 10, 1935 the son of the late Joe and Jenny (Hall) Martinchek. He was a hard worker who put in 34 years at the Charlevoix County Road Commission as a heavy equipment operator as well as working on the family farm. The farm started as a dairy farm then as a swine farm and to this day is being ran as a cash crops farm. He was a family man who loved spending his time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Joseph was a member of the Ellsworth Wesleyan Church where he served for many years as a greeter and board member as well as working with children’s crafts for bible school. He was also the founder of the annual pig roast at the church.
On October 31, 1954 at the former Ellsworth Pilgrim Holiness Church now Ellsworth Wesleyan Church, Joseph married Betty L. James who survives. Also surviving are children, Debra (Dennis Downing) Martinchek, David (Kathryn) Martinchek, Brian Lee Martinchek, Brenda (John) Morgan all of Charlevoix, grandchildren, Joey Palmer, Amy Wolfgang, Angie Bingham, Mikayla Martinchek, great-grandchildren, Christopher Wolfgang, Libby Baker, Gracie Baker and Ray Baker.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Ellsworth Wesleyan Church with Rev. Chris Wallace officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Winchester Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Private interment will take place at Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or Ellsworth Wesleyan Church.
