John "Jack" Rogers, 84, of Central Lake, passed away at the Eastport Village Care Home on July 8, 2016. Jack was born on May 29, 1932, in East Jordan, the son of John and Josephine (Kortanek) Rogers. Jack was a lifelong resident of Central Lake and was employed for many years at Dura Automotive in East Jordan until his retirement in 2001. He enjoyed riding tractors and cutting grass. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he earned a Purple Heart. Following the war, he became a life member of the VFW Torch Post #6985 in Central Lake. He is survived by a son Rodney (Sandra) Rogers of Bellaire, two brothers, Howard Rogers of Central Lake, Francis (Jinks) Rogers of East Jordan, three grandchildren, John Rogers of Bellaire, Kyle Rogers of Petoskey, Karri (David) Hagan of Traverse City, three great-grandsons, Derrick Rogers, Ethan Walters, Zachary Rogers, many nieces and nephews as well as a special friend, Carolyn Brown of Central Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wanda Bell Rogers, a daughter, Barb Rogers, brother Hugh Rogers, and two sisters, Jacqueline Gibbard and Ruth Banum. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Pastor Gary Bekkering will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake Township. Visitation will be on Monday from 6-8 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Lake VFW Torch Post #6985. Arrangements are being handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
