John Neych

John Thomas Neych, 59, of Charlevoix, formerly of Grosse Pointe, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 11, 2023.  He was born on May 15, 1964, in Detroit, the son of Thomas and Ilene (Brzezicki) Neych.

John graduated from Tawas High School, and went on to attend college for several semesters at Macomb County Community College.  He began a successful career as a painting contractor in Grosse Pointe where he worked for many years.  In 2007, he moved to Marquette and went back to school at Northern Michigan University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science.  However, his passion for painting never faded, and shortly after he continued with his painting business, Lochmoor Painting.  In 2016, he moved to Charlevoix and continued his career.

John was a simple man who enjoyed the simple things in life.  He liked to fish, especially for salmon, in the many lakes and rivers Michigan has to offer, and he spent much of his time working on his 1992 Chevy truck.  No matter what he was doing, he was most likely listening to his favorite music, classic rock, a love he shared with his many close friends from Tawas.

On July 17, 2010, in Marquette, John married the love of his life, Christine (Mendinueto) Neych, who survives.  Also surviving is his son, Jayce; his father, Thomas (Margaret) Neych; two brothers, Mark (Joy) Neych and Bradford (Ryan) Neych; two sisters, Debi Naborczyk and Marsha (Mark) Waters; a niece, Erin Toska; and two nephews, Nick Toska and Mark Naborczyk.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ilene Neych.

A funeral mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Charlevoix.  Visitation will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 19, with a rosary at 7:45 p.m. at the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
