John Meyette

John LeRoy Meyette, 85, of Alden passed away January 17, 2017 at Munson Hospice House. He was born June 5, 1931 in Saginaw, the son of the late John and Mary (Sauve) Meyette.

John graduated in 1949 from St. Peter & Paul in Saginaw. He then earned his bachelor degree in criminal justice from Saginaw Valley College. John retired from the Saginaw Police Department in 1985 where he also worked for the Dignity Protection Agency Secret Service. After retirement, John and Shirley moved to Torch Lake in 1985 and John served as the Antrim County Undersheriff from 1985 until 1989. John was proud of his time that he was a legislative aid for Senator John Cisky.

On November 7, 1953 in Saginaw he married the love of his life, Shirley Swift who preceded him in death on July 30, 2014. Surviving are children, Helen (Phil) King of Saginaw, Ann (Steve) Albers of Bellaire, Patrick (Kim) Meyette of Saginaw, Bridget (Dan) Coleman of Dearborn, Molly (Tom) Troost of Traverse City, and Christine Meyette of Sault Saint Marie; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother, Thomas Meyette. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 20, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Fr. Dale Magoon officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017at St. Andrews Cemetery in Saginaw.
