John Litwaitis Jr., 94, of Central Lake, passed away on October 20, 2024 at his home.
John was born on April 29, 1930, in Detroit, the son of John and Anna (Warwick) Litwaitis.
He was a carpenter for many years then went on to work as custodian for the Central Lake Public Schools.
John was a proud member of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War and a life member of the Central Lake VFW (Currently Amvets). He enjoyed traveling including 9 trips to Alaska, multiple trips to the Upper Peninsula to see water falls and lighthouses. In addition to traveling, he enjoyed ice fishing, making maple syrup, wine making, mushrooming, playing accordion, piano, harmonica, snowshoeing as well as doing amateur photography.
On December 17, 1984, in Traverse City, he married Eloise L. Drogt who survives. Also surviving are 10 children, Jeanne (David) Kops of DeWitt Twp, MI, Connie (Finton) Galloup of Traverse City, Candy Livingston of Lennet, AL, Joannie (Mark) Deblock of Holton, MI, Chris (Jay) Rogers of Central Lake, Chris (John) Westbrook of White Coud, MI, Terry (Gary) Gillette of East Jordan, Tracy (Mark) Carney of Lady Lake, FL, Carol (Kelly) Newman of Marysville, WA, Marie (Rod) Leathers of Central Lake 36 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and his previous wife and mother of his children Roberta (Parker) Seabolt.
Preceding him in death were a son Ken James, daughters Cyndi Childers, and Collette Murray, 2 grandchildren, Adam Galloup, Zachary Childers, his parents, and a brother Raymond Litwaitis. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 27 from 2-4 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
Funeral Mass will be on Monday, October 28 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Jordan with Fr. Matthew Furgiuele officiating.
