John Calvin Lamoreaux – 88 – Charlevoix

John Calvin Lamoreaux passed away quietly in the comfort of his home December 31, 2024 surrounded by his wife and daughters.

Born October 6, 1936 in Banks Township, Michigan, he grew up on the family farm. John was the fourth oldest child of Raymond and Hazel (Arnold)Lamoreaux. When it was time to attend school he joined his older siblings at Central Lake Public School where he would later receive his high school diploma.

During high school John met his future wife, Lynn Hair, whom he married in 1956. They made their home in the Petoskey/Charlevoix Area.

John spent most of his career at The LexaLite International Corporation, where he was employed for decades. He wore many hats while working at LexaLite such as, plastic molding specialist, safety director and forman. During those years John and Lynn raised four daughters. John designed and built an amazing home and used his ingenuity to create faster, easier and better ways to be successful at whatever he was working on at the time.

His daughters would be the first to tell you they were raised as if they were boys. John took time to teach them about cars, engines, chopping, stacking, as well as hauling the winter’s wood. There was farming, fishing, snowmobiling, camping, hunting, mini bikes and go carts, learning to drive, having fun and all the things boys should know. He was very proud of his girls. In his spare time John loved working on his antique Farmall tractors, his Case backhoe and spending time tinkering in his garage. He was a jack of all trades. If he couldn’t fix it or didn’t have the part he would make it out of all his “treasures” from over the years. He was also quite the puzzler. John and his family put together hundreds of puzzles with John always saying as soon as the box was opened, “I think there are a lot of pieces missing.”

John is survived by his wife, Lynn, daughters, Karen Lamoreaux of Petoskey, Pamela(Mark)Lamoreaux-Gregory of Petoskey and Cindi(Travis)Lamoreaux of Elk Rapids. He also leaves behind his greatest joys, his grandchildren, Olivia Brown, Morgan(David)Kaczmarczyk, Grant Gregory, Chase(Taylor)Gregory, Brenton(Jenna)Evans, and Cameron Evans. He is also survived by his sister Linda McDaniel, brother-in-law William Hair and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his eldest daughter Barbara K. Lamoreaux, his parents, Raymond(Elizabeth) Lamoreaux and Hazel(Arnold) Lamoreaux, brothers, Richard(Rita), Russell(Lois), Marland(Carol), sister, Janet(Jim)Johnson and brother-in-law Gary McDaniel as well as best friend, David Shively.

A huge heartfelt thank you is extended McLaren Hospice team. Donations in remembrance of John may be sent to McLaren Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Michigan at 1 Hiland Drive, Petoskey, Michigan 49770.
