Johanna Doctor

Johanna Doctor, 97, of Ellsworth died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the home of her son in East Jordan.
She was born December 5, 1916 in Banks Twp. the daughter of John and Wilhelmina (VanderHeide) Veenstra.
On July 3, 1936 she married Silas Doctor in Banks Twp. where they made their home. Mr Doctor died in 1993.
Mrs Doctor was a member of the Central Lake Bible Baptist Church for over 50 years where she taught Sunday School and also a leader in AWANA for many years. She was employed as head cook at Ellsworth Schools for 21 years. She also was a 4-H leader for many years and volunteered at Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility. She enjoyed cooking, reading and traveling: twice to Brazil, Italy, Israel and Alaska where she went white water rafting at age 82.
Surviving are her children: Robert (Peg) Doctor of Oden, Kenneth (Donna) Doctor of Otsego, Fay (Ted) Sessler of Jamestown, Ohio, Vangie (Mel) Willie of Bay Minette, AL and Si (Mary) Doctor of East Jordan. 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by Sisters Gezina Aardema, Christine DeVries and brothers Mike Veenstra and John Tornga.
The funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at the Central Lake Bible Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Si Doctor and Rev. Jason DeVrou officiating. Burial will be in Atwood Cemetery, Banks Twp., MI.
Friends may call at the Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth Thursday 4-7 and Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
