Joanne S. Kalchik, 86, of Bellaire, passed away on September 14, 2014 at Munson Medical Center. Joanne was born on October 29, 1927,in Royal Oak Township, MI, the daughter of Jerome and Emma (LaCross) Belanger. Joanne was a Bellaire resident since 1953 and was a long time member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Bellaire and was instrumental in helping raise money to build St. Luke. She was described as a "Pioneer" woman who was willing to do any project that needed to be done and could always figure it out. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, sewing, crocheting, and canning fruits and vegetables. She is survived by 5 children, Ginger Kelly of Colorado Springs, CO, Judy (Doug) Ettema of Bellaire, Steve (Sylvia) Kalchik of Bellaire, Jeff (Deb Karger) Kalchik of Cannon Falls, MN, Meg (Dave) Zuern of Monroe, New York, a brother Don Belanger of FL, a sister Sharon (Jerry) Noffsinger of SC, 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild with another on the way and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Kalchik, two brothers, Gene and Mike Belanger as well as her parents. Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, September 17 at 12:00 noon at St. Luke Catholic Church in Bellaire. Fr. James Gardiner will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of mass at the church. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire. Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Health Care Regional Foundation, Heart Care, 1150 Medical Campus Dr., Traverse City, MI, 49684 or to the Charity of the donor's choice.
