JoAnn Larson

JoAnn Elaine Larson, 78, of Elmira, passed away surrounded by her loved ones in the house her husband built for them.  She was born on March 28, 1941 in Vassar, MI, the daughter of Elmer and Dorothy (Campbell) Whitman.

On January 3, 1962, JoAnn married her husband Duane Larson; her childhood sweetheart, best friend, and love of her life.  Together, they owned and operated a hardware store in Otisville, MI. They retired to Lakes of the North in the late 1990’s.  JoAnn’s family was the most important thing in her life, especially her beloved Duane. She also enjoyed crocheting, spending time with their kitty, Wilbur, and she had a special love for the Christmas season.

She is survived by her husband; a son, John Larson of MIllington, MI; two sisters, Patricia (the late Robert) Cousins of Swartz Creek, MI, and Debra (Dale) Gentle of Swartz Creek, MI; a sister-in-law, Diane (Tom) Jezowski of Bay City, MI; and several nieces and nephews, as well as many great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Fern Leary, and Bonnie Hart; and a brother, Lanny Whitman.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, June 15, with Chaplain Mary Ann Lariviere officiating, at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

Visitation will take place on Friday, June 14 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m, also at the Mancelona Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
