JoAnn Elzinga, 79, of Charlevoix, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at Munson Healthcare Charlevoix. She was born August 17, 1937, in Columbus, Ohio to Joseph and Lydia (Salisbury) Liston. JoAnn moved to Charlevoix as a young girl and grew up there. She graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1955, and on September 3, 1955, she married Richard L. Elzinga, Sr., and he preceded her in death on March 3, 2007.
JoAnn worked as a secretary and in bookkeeping for area businesses: Pet Gas, Charlevoix Courier, Charlevoix Federal Credit Union, and Chip Counseling. She served as Charlevoix Township Clerk. She was an accomplished musician and played organ for the Christian Science Society, Bethany Lutheran Church, and Greensky Hill United Methodist Church.
JoAnn was a member of Greensky Hill United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her children, Richard (Pam) Elzinga, Kim (Michael) Marchewitz, Joseph Martin Elzinga, Sr. (Rocky) all of Charlevoix, Karen Funk of Redford; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00 PM, Thursday, December 15, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. Memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, December 16, at Greensky Hill United Methodist Church. Interment will take place in the spring at Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix.
