Janice Ellen (Morningstar) Tingley, 82, of Mancelona passed away peacefully in her sleep during the early evening hours of December 30, 2023.
Janice was born June 28, 1941 in Detour, Michigan. She was one of thirteen children born to her parents William Morningstar and Bernice (Stout) Morningstar. The family moved to Antrim when she was a small child and she attended Mancelona schools. Janice went on to have six children of her own who all survive her, Tamera McGrath of Lake Ann, Jim Sarten of Livonia, Randy (Loni) Sarten of Mancelona, Sherm (Pam) Tipton JR of Mancelona, Brian (Wendy) Tipton of Neshkoro, WI, and Teri Grody of Mancelona. She is also survived by her youngest sister Catherine (Louis) Scholl of Mancelona, brothers in law Robert Carlson of Grand Rapids and Harley Vanhoose of Greenville, sisters in law Judy Morningstar of Chandler, OK, and Jane Morningstar of Oscoda, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. With such a large number of both family and friends, it is difficult to list them all by name, but they were all loved by her.
She was proceeded in death by her parents William and Bernice, her husband Ronald Tingley, 4 brothers- Ralph, William, Grant, and Jim, 7 sisters- Shirley, Wilma, Joan, Gertrude, Patricia, Joyce, and Linda, a grandson Randy Sarten JR, two granddaughters Kelly and Joely Lamia, a son in law Bill McGrath, brothers in law Jock, Max, Harold, and John, a sister in law Chris, as well as several friends.
Janice did not wish to have a visitation or service and the family honored that wish and ask those that loved her to remember her as the funny, fiesty woman she was that loved bingo, playing slot machines all over Michigan and Las Vegas, listening and singing along to country music songs especially those by Conway Twitty, Don Williams, and Tammy Wynette, sewing, reading mystery novels, Yahtzee, scrabble, cribbage, and just being on the go as much as she could. It was just the past few years that she was forced to slow down due to dementia. May it be of comfort to you that she did not suffer long and she was ready to be reunited with her loved ones waiting with open arms for her in Heaven. I’m sure New Year’s Eve there was full of laughter and shenanigans like God has never seen before.
Arrangements are in the care of the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign her online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com.
