Janice “Jan” McNeil Kalinich, 85, passed away on December 5th, 2022, at Meadowbrook Care Facility.
Jan was born on January 22, 1937, to Bertha and Bowman McNeil in High Point, North Carolina. The McNeil family moved to Central Florida while Jan was a child, and she graduated from Apopka High School. She went on to work in office administration, and found she had a special gift for accounting and numbers. Jan worked in multiple offices always running the show whether from the front or behind the scenes. Jan was known in her professional career for being meticulous and was often counted on to close out government contract accounts. After retiring, Jan moved to Central Lake to be with her sister Helen and to help care for her brother-in-law Jim. Upon moving to Meadowbrook’s Grass Creek Hall, her spirits were greatly lifted from the weariness of her Alzheimer’s by the amazing and compassionate staff there. The nurses and staff relayed many stories of how Janice ran the show, making sure everyone was doing what they were supposed to earning her the affectionate nickname “bossy pants”.
Jan had three sons whom she raised on her own. She was an incredible mother and always ensured her boys had what they needed and, in many cases, what they wanted. Her work ethic and loving and caring nature were passed on to her sons Don, Mike, and Sean. Jan was well-loved by all who she encountered, and her mix of witty humor, her smile, and beautiful laugh were sure to capture your heart - if her pies and cakes did not.
