Janet Elaine Rocker, 84, of Bellaire, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. She was born on August 25, 1937 in Pontiac, MI, the daughter of Harold and Harriet (Hodges) Rocker.
Janet graduated from Wixom High School and went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Western Reserve University. She worked as a librarian for many years at both Central Michigan University and Ferris State University. She spent much of her free time in Bellaire, and eventually retired to the area where she has lived ever since.
Janet was an extremely talented artist; she created beautiful jewelry from sea shells and other materials, she hand-painted card stock and pictures, and she was very skilled with a camera. She also loved to read, enjoyed travelling to Grand Marais in the Upper Peninsula, and was a member of the Historical Society of Michigan.
Janet is survived by her cousin, Anne Rocker-Sears, and her significant other, Larry Martin.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Interment will be private at Lakeview Cemetery in Bellaire.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bellaire Public Library.
