On a beautiful day in June 1942 Janet Mildred Hilliker was born to Harvey and Audry Hilliker in the Toledo Women’s Hospital. She was their only child and she loved to say she was “Daddys little Girl”. Her family was from the Charlevoix area and will be buried in the Family Plot in Brookside Cemetery on Monday, May 6, at 1:00 p.m.
Janet was preceded in death by both her father and Mother. And is survived by few cousins. She was extremely bright and received both her Masters and Doctorate Degrees from University of Kentucky. She loved to travel and had visited 29 countries over the years. She taught English in Panama at one point and moved with her former husband to Kentucky where she worked with him in his business managing an apartment complex. She loved going to the Kentucky Derby, and other horse races. She moved back to Michigan in the early 90’s to help her father after her mom passed away. She actively participated in the Ada Township meetings for many years.
Janet had a love of animals and all things in nature. She would feed the deer in her yard as well as the possums, racoons, and turkeys. She looked forward each spring to the new fawns and often named them.
She will be missed by her four-legged friends as well as neighbors and friends. A celebration of life will be held later this spring in Charlevoix. Donations can be made in her name to Green sky Church in Charlevoix, the Kent County Humane Society or Paws with a Cause.
Special thank you to her special friend Pat Osterhouse for her love and care during her last couple years. Also, thank you to the staff at Medilodge, especially her nurse, Angela and CNA Katy! In addition, we would like to thank West Michigan Hospice for all their help in her final days.
