Jane Saul

Jane L. Saul (nee Reetz) passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 12, 2016. She was born on July 29, 1936 in Brighton, MI and had an indomitable spirit that served her well during her 80 years. She was raised in Farmington and Howell, MI. She met her husband, Richard, on a blind date. Their love and devotion to each other spanned more than 57 years. They raised their children in Southfield, and then moved to Royal Oak. After that they spent many years enjoying their time on beautiful Torch Lake.

Jane was an avid reader, instilling that love in her children. She also loved gardening and spent many summer afternoons during her life raising vegetables and flowers. Jane's collection of cookbooks and recipes are legendary, and her family and friends enjoyed many a wonderful meal full of love. She and Richard were even part of a gourmet supper club for more than 30 years with her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and David Wood, and her dear friends John and Judy Kreiman and Pam and Jim Gray.

Jane's spirit was also evident in her social activism during the 1960's in her fight for equal rights and as the Fair Housing Coordinator for Southfield and Birmingham. She was a trailblazer in her four-decade career, and played a key roll in the development of Comerica Bank's Private Banking Group. Jane valued education and completed her bachelor degree at the University of Michigan in 1982.

Jane was predeceased by her parents, Luther P. and Ellen E. (Bielman) Reetz. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Richard, and their children Kathryn Bernhardt (Kurt), Karen Baer (Ed), Debra Oberpeul (John), and Michelle Swanson. She is also survived by her grandchildren Nicole Delucia, Eric Baer, Michael Swanson, Hillary Oberpeul, and John Oberpeul, as well as two great grandchildren, Kathryn Elizabeth and Madelyn Jane Delucia. Her siblings Mary Wood (David), Gail Nixon (Gordon), and Neal Reetz (Pam) also survive.

A private family service is being held at this time. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 3, from 1 to 4 pm at the Torch Lake Day Park. Memorial contributions can be made in Jane's name to Hospice of Michigan, Central Lake District Library, Acme Christian Thrift Store and Food Pantry, or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements have been handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign her online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com.
