James P. Waller, 90, of Charlevoix, passed away Monday, July 6, 2015, at Tender Care in Gaylord. He was born November 5, 1924, in Detroit to Harris and Mabel (Drury) Waller.

He served in the US Coast Guard during WWII as a sonarman. Following the war, he made his home in Central Lake.

Married on November 6, 1981, he has been the devoted husband of Viola Andersen Pettis Waller for thirty-three years. They made their home in Charlevoix where James worked at Harbor Industries as a cabinet maker, retiring after thirty-four years.

He loved woodworking, tending his garden, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

James is survived by his wife, Viola; children, James Waller of Traverse City, Gloria (Ben) Waller of East Jordan, Joy Livingston of Central Lake, Richard Waller of Central Lake, Mary (Enos) Bacon of East Jordan, Susan Pettis (Alfred) Bagaglia of New Providence, R.I., James Pettis of Charlevoix, Gary (Patti) Pettis of Cotton Town, Tenn. Amazing grandpa and papa to fifteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don and Richard; sister Delores; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Pettis.

Funeral will be 1 pm, Monday, July 13, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix where visitation will begin at 11 am. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix. The Reverend Todd Thompson will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlevoix United Methodist Church.
