James Steen

James Lee Steen Sr., 72, of Charlevoix, Michigan, was called home on November 13, 2024 at the dearest time of 1:11 pm, while surround by his family. James was born on October 09, 1952 to his mother Rebecca Steen and his grandmother Elizabeth Drain in Mobile Alabama. 

Known as Superman, after traveling between Alabama and Michigan he settled in Detroit where In 1975, met the love of his life Beatryce. James and Bea went on to raise a combined 5 children James Lee Jr, Diana, Vivian, Shelly and Phillip and celebrated 49 years of marriage

In 2005 after planting roots and making a home of northern Michigan James retired and spent his years enjoying fishing, listening to music, exploring the beaches, traveling to see family, visiting the casino, attending the bowling league, and of course eating his favorite foods with family. 

James was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert & Elizabeth, his mother Rebecca, sister Queenie, and his two brothers Robert and Raymond.

He is survived by his wife Beatryce, his sons James Jr. and Phillip; his daughters Diana, Vivian, Shelly; his sisters Carol and Lillian; and his brothers Mark and Sammy. He has been blessed with 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and an amazingly unaccountable number of nieces and nephews and cousins.

James was known to love all the babies no matter the relation. He was quick-witted and could be relied upon to tell people exactly what he was thinking. You could always count on our Superman to make everyone laugh. James will be missed dearly not only by family but also his many friends of the community

A funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, at the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services.
