James Robert Allen, 73, of Eastport, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2024. Born on February 3, 1951, Jim was a beloved husband father, poppy, and friend who dedicated much of his life to serving others and bringing joy to those around him.
A proud veteran, Jim served his country honorably in the Vietnam War. Following his service, Jim moved to Eastport, Michigan where he met his future wife Ruth Kruse. Jim and Ruth would go on to marry, have kids and share a life of family adventures together. He was known for his warm heart, infectious smile, and his passion for making people’s lives brighter.
Jim had a deep love for his family. His wife, children and grandchildren were at the center of his world. He cherished family vacations, creating lasting memories with loved ones, and was a constant presence at family gatherings. His selflessness and willingness to do anything for those he loved were traits that defined his character.
An avid fan of Detroit sports and Michigan athletics, Jim’s enthusiasm for his teams was contagious. He also enjoyed playing cards, listening to music and just conversing with friends, family and anyone who was around. But perhaps his greatest passion was in being a person for the people. Jim lived to help others, and he made it his mission to bring a smile to the faces of everyone he met.
Jim is survived by his wife Ruth Allen, his children Monica (Jordan) Nystorm, Michelle Koons, Michael Allen, Justin Allen, Brian Allen, his grandchildren Mason Hoppe, Ariana & Kaden Koons, McKenzie & Maddison Allen, Kingston, Kyrie, Khalil Fletcher, and many beloved extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and 3 sisters.
A service to celebrate Jim’s life with military honors will be held on Saturday November 16 at 1pm at the First Congregational Church with Pastor Gary Bekkering officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First Congregational Church Youth Fund.
He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and love will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Arrangements are in the care of the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign his online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com.
