James George McCann, an artist and resident of Williamsburg, passed unexpectedly on Sept. 21, 2015 while visiting friends in Charlevoix, MI.
James is survived by his mother Elizabeth (Wabanimkee) Yates, his children, Al & Danielle Gissendanner, Kaine & Lauren Shomin, Jerry & Tawas Neuman, Amos & Leiha VanAken, and Issac McCann; siblings Corvine Marcia Every, Lisa McCann and Scott McCann; grandchildren he loved endlessly; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He is preceded in death by his father James McCann, Sr.; cousins (best friends) Larry King, Fred, Ben and Kathy Wabanimkee.
James was a devoted father and Papa. He enjoyed music, movies, nature, family and friends. He served in the Navy and was a member of Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa Indians. He was known for his artistic abilities in Native American Art. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. He in now home with our creator.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 25, at 11:00 am. at Greensky Hill Church in Charlevoix, MI. The Reverend Sam McClellan will officiate. Flower donations and condolences may be offered to the family at Greensky Hill Church.
