James W. Lutz, age 87 of Charlevoix passed away on April 25, 2018 at the Georgia House.
James was born on April 20, 1931 in Bessemer, MI to the late Charles and Margaret Lutz.
James graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree. He also served in the United States Army for 2 years. Following his discharge, he began working for Chesapeake and Ohio railroad. James was a lifelong employee of the C & O Railroad and worked for many years in both Charlevoix and Frankfurt as an agent. James enjoyed spending his free time gardening, weightlifting, building and watching sports especially U of M Football, Green Bay Packers and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball. His greatest joy in life came from his grandchildren. He enjoyed being with them and building items for them to keep including a doll house that was a replica of his own home. He was known for his witty sense of humor.
James is survived by his daughters, Peggy Wenzel and Catherine Linse both of Charlevoix; grandchildren, Lisa (Chris) Lahr, Heather Waltonen and Britney Gibson; great granddaughter, Arianna Leclair and many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva, his siblings, Helen, Chuck and Marguerite and his parents.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Charlevoix with Fr. Peter Wigton officiating. Memorial contributions in James name may be directed to Northwest Michigan Hospice, 220 W. Garfield Ave., Charlevoix, MI 49720.
