James "Jim" Edward Hoey

James “Jim” Edward Hoey, 76 of Kewadin, died peacefully October 23, 2022, surrounded by his family.  He was born April 28, 1946 in Detroit the son of Edward and Bettye Hoey. 

   Jim was raised in Dearborn and graduated from Edsel Ford High School.  He earned his Bachelor’s degree in education from Central Michigan University and Master’s degree in guidance counseling from Eastern Michigan University.   While at CMU, Jim was a 4 year varsity baseball player.  Jim worked for 32 years in the Dearborn Public Schools, where he touched many lives as a teacher, counselor and coach. 

   In retirement, Jim worked as a golf group coordinator and on the golf staff for Grand Traverse Resort in Acme and later on the golf staff at A-ga-ming golf Resort.  Jim was a lifelong Detroit/Michigan Sports fan.  He loved to play golf, fish, travel, and spend time with family and friends.  He is now at home with His Lord.  Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, teacher, counselor, coach and will truly be missed by all who knew him. 

   Left to cherish his memory are his wife Linda Hoey, son Doug (Stacie) Hoey and grandsons Sean and Ben Hoey, son David Hoey, sisters Barbara Pingston and Deborah Rocholl.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Katherine Brown. 

   Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 28^th at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Elk Rapids with Rev. Robert J. Zuchowski presiding.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service.  A luncheon will follow mass.
