James Nicholas Ellavich

James N. Ellavich, 81, of Bellaire, passed away on October 7, 2023 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility.

   James was born on July 28, 1942, in Detroit, the son of Nicholas and Mary Ann (Hettel) Ellavich.

   He was a long time employee of General Motors where he began his career as a draftsman and working his way up to a supervisor over his 33 year employment.

   He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Bellaire and loved the outdoors.   Among his favorite hobbies were, landscaping, boating, cutting firewood, hunting and fishing.

   On September 12, 1969, in Grosse Point, MI, he married Patricia A. (Dery) Ellavich who survives.   Also surviving are 2 children, Dennis (Jessica) Ellavich of Warren, MI, Cheryl (Rudy) Gonzales of Okemos, MI, 5 grandchildren, Kaylee (Nate) LaFayette, Noelle Ellavich, Drew Hoffer, Gabe Hoffer, Jacob Gonzales and 1 great-granddaughter Adleigh LaFayette.

   Preceding him in death were his parents.

   Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

   Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, October 12, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church in Bellaire with Fr. Matthew Cowan officiating.  Visitation will also be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass at St. Luke.

   Memorial contributions may be made to Antrim County Baby Pantry, 209 Jefferson St., Mancelona, MI,  49659.
