Jacob Koens

Jacob (Jake) C Koens Sr. (72) of Central Lake went to be with the lord, August 10th, 2013. He passed peacefully in his home while surrounded by family. He was born to Eite and Jantye (Van Kampen) Koens in Den Hague, Netherlands on September 8th, 1940, immigrating to the USA in 1955 with his parents and siblings. Jacob graduated from high school in Ellsworth before enlisting in the US Army. Following his military service he returned to the Central Lake area and became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1966. Jake worked as a supervisor in the maintenance department for East Jordan Iron Works, and enjoyed doing odd jobs to help friends and neighbors any time there was a need. Jake was a long standing member of Eastport Baptist church and the Central Lake community. Jake and Joy lived in their dream home on Mohrmann bridge road which they built for their retirement. Many folks will remember him driving his restored "36" international cherry red pick-up for many years.

Jacob is survived by his wife of 55 years Joy and his two children Jacob Jr. (Cynthia) and Judith Joy, and grandchildren; Stephanie Koens, Shae and Cian. He will be missed by his siblings; Henry (Thelma) Koens of Hudsonville, William (Donna) Koens of Palmetto, Fl., Margo (Dave) De Kock of Byron Center, Eduard (Johanna) Koens of Wayland, Jan (Lavonne) Koens of N. Muskegon, and Dolly (Richard) Murray of Grand Rapids, two Sister in-laws; Cora Elenbass of Ellsworth, and Shirley Stoel of Charlevoix, as well as many nieces, nephews, and community friends.

Visitation will be held at the Mortensen funeral home, 2333 S Main St., Central lake, Mi on Tuesday, August 13th, 2013 from 2 - 4pm and 6 - 8pm.

Services will be held at the Eastport Baptist Church, 5910 N M-88 HWY, Eastport, Mi. on Wednesday, August 14th, 2013 at 1:00pm followed by a graveside military service at the Lake view cemetery in Eastport.

A reception will be begin following church services at the Eastport Baptist church.

Memorial gifts may be made in memory of Jacob to The Eastport Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.

A heart felt thank you goes to the members of the Eastport Baptist church, Hospice of Charlevoix, and all those who showed their love and support during his illness and passing.
