Irene Effie Wildfong, 93, of Mancelona passed away peacefully Thursday, November 8, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was born o January 11, 1919 in Carter County, Kentucky to Louis Archie and Ethel G. Alexander. The family moved to Mancelona when she was 11 years old. She married Harold E. Wildfong November 10, 1945 after his duty in the Army during World War II. She operated the Lona Theater in Mancelona during the 1960's and early 1970's then worked at ITT Controls in Bellaire for 10 years before retiring. She enjoyed gardening and entertaining her family and friends. Irene was a member of the Antrim Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband and three sons, Willard (Karen) Lawrence of Bay City and Mancelona, Harold (Janet) Wildfong Jr. of Williamsburg, Michael (Anne) Wildfong of Hudsonville; daughter, Phyllis (Alphaeus) Leach of Bellaire; step-daughter, Norma (Howard) Meadowcroft of Interlochen; sister, Dorothy (Robert) Wildfong; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Lawrence in WWII, her parents, three brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 12, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Antrim Church of Christ with Pastor Mark McCool officiating. The burial will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
