Ida Fisher Caldemeyer, 96, of Bellaire, passed away on April 5, 2014 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility.
Ida was born on April 22, 1917, in Wenatchee, Washington, the daughter of Durward and Alida (Dearborn) Fisher.
Ida earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from the University of Maryland in 1938 and a Master of Science in Nutrition from the University of Illinois in 1940.
She worked for Eastern States Food Cooperative in Connecticut from 1940-1944 and for General Foods in New York City from 1944-1947. She testified before a congressional committee in 1943 on the nutritional deficiencies of enriched flour, which had just been introduced.
On December 31, 1947 Ida married Dr. Everett Samuel Caldemeyer who preceded her in death. Surviving are 3 children, John (Jan) Caldemeyer of Mills River, N.C., Charles Caldemeyer of Mansfield, OH, Robert (Cathy) Caldemeyer of Cincinnati, OH, 6 grandchildren, Lisa Diedrichs, Christopher, Timothy, Christina, Samuel and Madeline Caldemeyer.
The family lived near Washington D.C. from 1947-1975. Ida transitioned from a professional nutritionist to a loving homemaker known for her baking skills. Everett had a major stroke in 1975 that necessitated retirement, and they moved to Boca Raton, Florida. Ida was his primary caregiver for the ten years until his death in 1985.
In 1988, she built a house on her part of the old Dearborn farm where she remained for the rest of her life.
A graveside service will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire this summer with a date and time to be announced.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grass River Natural Area.
