Howard Rogers

April 15, 1939 — July 8, 2018

Howard Rogers

The Lord’s timing is always perfect.  Howard was called to paradise two years to the day that his older brother, Jack, passed.  Howard was born at home in Bellaire on tax day 1939.  He was raised in Antrim County, the youngest of 3 brothers and two sisters.  He lived a bachelor life and enjoyed his privacy.  He shared his home with his beloved little Missy, a tiny little dog who lived the life of royalty.  Howard retired from Dura Automotive where he worked many years in maintenance.  He liked to occasionally gather with his friends seated on his favorite barstool at Babe’s.

Howard lived a very humble life and didn’t believe in buying anything new if you didn’t need it.  He liked a cold draft beer and a messy rack of barbeque ribs.  His birthday was always celebrated with pineapple upside down cake and he always insisted on roasting his own turkey and staying home for the holidays with a box of chocolate covered cherries.  He proudly dressed as Santa Claus for several years during the Central Lake Window Night and liked to decorate his porch with a Santa, and a pumpkin at Halloween to light the way for trick-or-treaters.

The last few years, he has resided at Eastport Care Home.  He was preceded in death and welcomed to spend eternity with his parents, John and Josephine Rogers, siblings Jack & Wanda Rogers, Hugh Rogers, Jackie (Stan) Gibbard and Ruth (Gene) Bainum.  He is survived by a brother, Francis (Jinks) Rogers and also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who fondly remember him as “Uncle Howie”.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later time.  Memorial contributions can be given in his name to the Eastport Village Care Home, PO BOX 264, Eastport, MI 49627.

Arrangements have been handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  Please sign his online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com.
