HOWARD S. BUFFMAN, 87, of Central Lake, died on May 8, 2010 surrounded by his loving family at his home. Howard was born on April 28, 1923 in Bentley, Michigan, the son of Oliver and Erna (Dorre) Buffman. Howard was a resident of Central Lake since 1956 where he owned and operated Buffman and Son's Excavating. Howard enjoyed deer hunting, gardening and playing cards, especially euchre. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he received a Silver Star for Valor and was a life member of the Central Lake VFW Torch Post # 6985. On December 23, 1948 in Flint, he married Marcella DeForest who survives. Also surviving are 5 children, Victor (Gloria) Bloom of Central Lake, Eugene (Cindy) Bloom of Fairbanks, AK., Gary (Janice) Buffman of Central Lake, Diane Dawson (Pete Brown) of Fairbanks, AK., Daniel Buffman of Central Lake, a brother Carl Buffman of Bay City, 3 sisters, Mary Wagner of Owosso, MI., Louella "Bunnie" (Eugene) Krol of Pinconning, MI., Leona "Tootie" (Jerry) of Pinconning, MI., 2 sisters in law, Hester Sommerville of Waterford, MI., Ursula Buffman of Bentley, MI., 11 grandchildren, Debbie (Wayne) Pardee of Central Lake, Todd Bloom of Central Lake, Vince Bloom of Fairbanks, AK., Matt Bloom of Fairbanks, AK., Greg Bloom of Central Lake, Karen (Bob) Lowry of Loomis, CA., Tim (Tressa) Buffman of Central Lake, Luke (Jen) Buffman of Central Lake, Charlie (Susan) Dawson of Fairbanks, AK., Christie Sexton and Matt Sexton both of Central Lake, 12 great-grandchildren, Wayne Pardee, Kiefer, Carli, and Kelsi Lowry, Christina, Dakota, Austin, Serena Dawson, Logan, Devon and Erika Bloom, Dylan and Delaney Buffman and Trevor and Trenton Buffman. Preceding him in death were his siblings, Lyle Buffman, Edith Buffman, Wilford Buffman, Freddie Buffman, Clarence "White" Buffman, Arthur Buffman, Dorothy Goodman, Richard Buffman, Oliver "Jack" Buffman, 2 grandsons, Erik and Derek Bloom, a daughter-in-law Judy Buffman and his parents. Funeral services will take place on Wed., May 12 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grace Community Church, Central Lake with Pastor Max Tracey. Interment will follow in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake Twp., Michigan. Visitation will take place on Tues. from 2-8 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Lake Public Schools (CLPS), PO BOX 128, Central Lake, Michigan 49622, to be used for the new football score board.
